Ash Regan’s Prostitution Bill

Scottish sex workers need your support to fight the Nordic Model!

MSP Ash Regan has introduced a bill to Scottish Parliament which aims to criminalise clients paying for sex in Scotland, otherwise known as the Nordic Model. Sex workers don’t want this bill – it would put us at higher risk of violence and push us further into poverty.

We need help from sex workers and allies to make sure the bill doesn’t become law.

Write to the Criminal Justice Committee.

How can allies and sex workers help?

By writing to the Criminal Justice Committee through its call for views on the bill, to tell them that you don’t want the Nordic Model in Scotland. The submission form is here.

The deadline for writing to the Committee is 5th September. We need as many people to respond as possible to help us demonstrate widespread opposition to the criminalisation of the purchase of sex.

The Committee asks you to answer five questions on the bill. We’ve listed the questions along with some suggestions about what you might like to include in your answers in the following documents:

If you’d like some support with writing a submission, we’re holding drop-in sessions to help. We’ll be holding sex worker-only sessions on 28th August and 2nd September from 1-4pm at NUMbrella Lane in Glasgow and online. We will also be hosting a sex worker and allies writing drop-in at Tollcross Community Centre, Edinburgh, 1-5pm, on the 22nd August. This will be hosted both online and in person. Email us at Scotland4Decrim@proton.me for more information on these.

We’ve also drafted an open letter to MSPs to oppose the Nordic Model, which we’ll be launching in September.

If you are an organisation or an individual with expertise in sex workers’ rights or a relevant area (e.g. health/HIV, criminal justice, human rights), please email us at Scotland4Decrim@proton.me to see a copy of the letter and to sign.
